Women's Club to raise funds for scholarships

James Roth/staff Photo-Club has 112 female Carrollton scholarships for girls in Carrollton area schools since 1996. They will be raffle items such as jewelry, golf clubs and many more in their annual lunch.

Since 1996, the Club has 112 scholarships totaling more than $ 100000 for students in the area of Carrollton. They are able to generate a majority of these funds through the parade that will take place on 14 April at Brookhaven Country Club.

This year's theme is called the Springtacular Affair, said Sharon Bland, co-Chairman of the fashion show. We will be with clothes of spring and Dillard's Vista Ridge of fashion experts

Bland said along with the luncheon and fashion show, the Club of Women s Carrollton will be offering an array of items to raffle. Prizes include handmade quilts, jewelry and a set of golf clubs along with many more.

Tickets are $ 35 per person and $ 14 for purchase of the ticket is a tax-deductible donation, Bland said. Last year we have 454 people watch our fashion and we hope to have more this year. We usually had many members throughout the community to come to the show, including many Municipal and school members.

The show will feature members of the Club showing various styles. In addition, there will be actual walking down the runway models, and first time male models also participate in fashion.

Bland said the Women's Club of Carrollton will give out $ 19500 in scholarships this year for female students.

We plan on the granting of scholarships for each school, "she said. Then again, there are also girls who receive scholarships to attend Mary Grimes Education Center as well. We have many girls apply, but only a handful will receive funds.

Bland said students interested in receiving a scholarship can fill out an application in their respective school. Upon receiving a request, members of the Club will attend school and meet with the student to get a better understanding of who they are and what they want to accomplish in the future.

We will award approximately 13 girls with a scholarship this year, Bland said. However, we receive many requests. Last year, we spent the whole day at school only one talking the girl after girl. We are honored that populate our application, but we only can reward so many.

Tickets for the fashion show will be on sale until April 1. For information about tickets, please call Sara salmon at 972-416-3356.
