Finding the best student grants for college can seem like a daunting task but it's easier than you might think. Money is everywhere for those wanting to improve their education and further their career.

First, lets talk about some of the different grant programs that are available. Once you become educated on the programs available, you can decide which ones are the best student grants for college for your particular situation.

Probably the most popular grant for college is the Pell Grant. The Pell Grant program is a post-secondary, educational federal grant program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.  The maximum grant amount for the 2008-2009 year is $4,731 and will increase to $5,400 by 2012. This type of grant is usually awarded to undergraduate students.

Another grant program is the National SMART Grant. This grant program is for full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in the third or fourth year of undergraduate study. The award is for up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth years.

If you are someone interest in going into the teaching profession,  the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program, provides up to $4,000 a year in grant assistance to students who are completing or who plan to complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching.

In exchange for the grant, a student must sign an Agreement to Serve* as a full-time teacher at certain low-income schools and within certain high-need fields for at least four academic years. This is the most sought after grant for those wanting to go into the teaching profession.
